Meet Our Ponies
Peppermint
24 y.o., 14.3h, chestnut, QH mare (acquired 10/95)
Peppermint was purchased from a local lesson barn nearly ten years ago. She had done local hunter shows as well. Peppermint’s size, movement and history made her an excellent choice for LTRF, and she has been a rider favorite for both lessons and shows for a long time now! She has been to Lexington to the TRAV Show (Therapeutic Riding Assoc. of VA) every year that we have attended.
Paint
23 y.o., 15.1h, Registered Paint gelding (acquired 3/01)
Paint was donated by long time program supporters Leon and Ellen Kellner. He has been an invaluable member of the group with his very quiet nature and infinite patience!! He is suitable for our most involved riders as well as our larger independent students. Our riders love his brown and white coat!
Muffy
18 y.o., 14h, palomino, QH mare (acquired 4/01)
Muffy was purchased in 2001 when we retired our wonderful pony Winston, and we were in need of pony that could fill his big “shoes”! Muffy is a pony that is suitable for our most involved riders, and for our smaller independent riders as well. Her background was in Pony Club and trail riding, and she is one of our most versatile ponies! We have several riders who will ride “Muffy” and no other!!
Thomas
23 y.o., 15.1h black, Percheron/QH gelding (acquired 6/01) - (Donated by Helen Ganster)
When we went to look at “Reverend Thomas” (Helen said he was a saint!) for the first time we did not have to get out of the car to know that he would be an outstanding therapy horse! “Thomas” had the largest, kindest eyes and we knew immediately that he would make an excellent addition to the group.
He is very sturdy yet, not too tall which makes him perfect for our teenaged and adult riders. Helen and “Thomas” did parades, trails and he was an outstanding foxhunter until an injury prevented him from lots of galloping and jumping. Now he does it all for LTRF!
Alex
21 y.o., 15.3h, bay, Appendix QH gelding (acquired 3/03) – (Donated by Pam Rosenstock)
“Alex” came to us highly recommended by several top local riders who had shown him over the years. His experience as an event horse has made in an excellent choice for shows and trail rides. He has been to the TRAV Show twice and was Champion or Reserve both times! “Alex” has an inquisitive nature and a great personality that makes him a rider favorite as well!!
Quanah
23 y.o., 15h, chestnut, QH gelding (acquired 9/03) – (Donated by Nick Powers)
“Quanah” was also a very experienced event/show horse and was Champion this past year at the TRAV Show in his division! His size and easy way of going have made him an awesome therapy horse. He is a horse that is suitable for many different riders including our most advanced independent students.
Hillary
14 y.o., 12.3h, black, Connemara/Welsh mare (acquired 10/03) (Donated by the Burn family)
Hillary was donated to LTRF as an outgrown pleasure pony. Her size, age, and outstanding movement have made her a valuable member of the group! Her big walk is very therapeutic to our smallest riders who require lots of sensory input. Hillary loves lessons out on the trail, and she is sooo cute!!
Lenox
15 y.o., 15.1h, bay, Holsteiner/TB mare (acquired 5/04) – Donated by Michele King)
“Lenox” has been a wonderful addition to LTRF as she has had an extensive dressage/show background.
She was Reserve Champion at her first TRAV Show and is suitable for our most advanced independent adult riders. She is a nice forward mover and very happy in her new job!
Druid
10 y.o., 14 h, bay Connemara gelding (acquired 7/05) Donated by Haley and Peter Walsh.
Druid came to LTRF last summer after a career showing, pony clubbing and trail riding. He is extremely quiet and willing making him suitable for most riders including those who ride independently. A near fatal case of laminitis two years has completely resolved and Druid is very sound and seems to really enjoy being back to work. We are very excited to have him!
Cooper
9 y.o. 13.1h, dark bay, grade pony gelding (acquired 9/05) Donated by Nancy Dillon.
Cooper was a former lesson pony and had done lots of foxhunting as well. His quiet temperament and size make him a great choice for a therapy horse. He is also extremely cute with a large heart-shaped star right on his forehead! We look forward to working him into the lesson schedule this year.
